Elsie Elsie Effah Kaufmann, PhD (PREDISENT)

Dr. Elsie Effah Kaufmann is a Senior Lecturer and the Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, University of Ghana. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE), a Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) and a PhD in Bioengineering, all from the University of Pennsylvania. After her graduate studies she received her postdoctoral training at Rutgers University before joining the University of Ghana in June, 2001.

Akwasi Akwasi Ayanful, PhD (Vice PREDISENT)
Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Emory University in Atlanta

Dr. Anyanful is currently an Instructor at the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Emory University in Atlanta. His main area of interest is to elucidate the virulence mechanisms of Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) and host response mechanisms using the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans). EPEC kills 2 million children in developing countries every year through diarrhoea and dehydration.

Sam Samuel Kojo Kwofie, MSc, PGCE Cum Laude (Secretary)

Samuel is currently a registered PhD student in Bioinformatics at the South African National Bioinformatics Institute, University of the Western Cape (UWC). He is a part-time Lecturer and Researcher at the School of Science and Mathematics Education. His MSc in Structural Biology was jointly awarded by the University of Cape Town and UWC. He also earned a PGCE Cum Laude from UWC.

Agbekoh Peter Agbekoh, MRES (TREASURER)
Assistant Lecturer, Biomedical Engineering Department, University of Ghana, Legon

Currently an Assistant Lecturer in the Biomedical Engineering Department, University of Ghana, Legon. Obtained a BSc. (Hons) from the University of Ghana in 2005. In 2008, awarded an MRes degree in Biomedical Science from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. Current interest lies in biotechnology and hopes to pursue further studies in a multidisciplinary field which combines principles of engineering and the understanding of human physiological processes.

George Prof. Winfried Amoaku, FRCS, FRCOphth, PhD, (Past President and Director)

Mr Winfried Amoaku is Associate Professor/Reader and Hon Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, with subspecialty interest in medical retinal diseases at the University Hospital, Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham. He undertook his basic medical training in the University of Ghana Medical School, Korle Bu, after which he proceeded to UK for his postgraduate specialisation.

George K. Acquaah-Mensah is currently an Associate Professor of the Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. He obtained a B.Pharm.(Hons.) degree from the University of Science and Technology in Ghana. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin, under the mentorship of Drs. James P. Kehrer and Steven W. Leslie in the Division of Pharmacology and Toxicology.

Born in Ghana, Peter Atadja received the Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana. He then proceeded to begin his postgraduate studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, where he made seminal contributions to the pioneering work of his mentors Professors Alex Levitzki and Michael Chorev in the designing and developing of first-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors (Tyrphostins) for anti-cancer therapy.

Kevin Kwabena O. Duedu, MPhil (Student Director)

Kwabena Obeng Duedu is currently a postgraduate student at the Department of Microbiology, University of Ghana Medical School (UGMS) reading MPhil in Microbiology. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Science-Microbiology from the University of Ghana. His interest is in pathogenesis and host-pathogen & pathogen-pathogen interactions. His masters research is on the contribution of human parvovirus B19 and malaria to severe anaemia. He is also a member of the Tropical Diseases Group (TDG) of the Department of Microbiology, UGMS.

Kevin Adutwum-Ofosu has since March 2004 been a Lecturer in Anatomy at the University of Ghana Medical School. He obtained a BSc. Degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland in September 2009.
